The North Central Instructors Black Belt Federation was started in Northern Wisconsin in 1969. At that time, there were very few martial artists here. Master William Van Auken, then a 1st degree black belt, was asked if he would help a fellow martial artist from another system test his students. He said yes. The idea was that together they were stronger than apart and together they could become better instructors. It was after that meeting that Master Van Auken organized the North Central Instructors Black Belt Federation.
As the years went by and knowledge was passed from instructor to student, the arts in Northern Wisconsin grew. The different systems developed to the point that this need for helping each other test students was no longer as necessary. But the practice still goes on; feedback from other instructors is as valuable a tool today as it was 30 years ago.
Today the North Central Instructors Black Belt Federation is a vibrant body of martial artists from many different styles that come together at various events throughout the year. These gatherings are opportunities to grow in the arts, to help one another become better martial artists and in doing so, better human beings.
